BWS logoSLC METER is now Blue-Water Solutions!

Please note that SLC Meter is now operating under the new name Blue-Water Solutions (BWS). While the name has changed, this is the same trusted contractor that has been working with the Township on the meter exchange program.

You may continue to see communications or field technicians using either the SLC Meter or Blue-Water Solutions logo during this transition. The Township is in the process of updating all references to reflect the new name.

Why did I get this notice and what should I do?

Water meters and reading devices are being upgraded throughout the Township in phases. If you've received a letter asking you to schedule, please follow the directions on the letter to set up an appointment.

How will I know when it's time to schedule my appointment?

A month before upgrades begin in an area, property owners/residents will be sent a letter with scheduling information. These notices will be mailed to the address on the water billing account. If you've received a letter, you can schedule an appointment.

About 2 weeks after the letters are mailed, Blue-Water Solutions (SLC Meter) technicians will be conducting site visits to request access. If an adult (over 18) is not home at the time of their site visit, they'll leave a door tag with instructions to schedule.

Do I have to upgrade my water meter?

Yes, this is a mandatory program.

Per Grand Blanc Charter Township Water Ordinance, Article II, Section 34-36 (b),  "Any officer, inspector, foreman or other authorized employee of the township board shall, upon the presentation of the badge or other credentials provided for in subsection (a) above, have free access at all reasonable hours to any premises supplied with water for the purpose of making any inspection thereof, including the examination of the entire water supply and plumbing system upon such premises. No person shall refuse to admit any authorized inspector and employee of the board for any such purpose."

How can I be sure the contractor at my home is legitimate?

The Township has hired Blue-Water Solutions (SLC Meter) of Auburn Hills, MI to perform the meter upgrades. SLC technicians will have ID badges with Grand Blanc Township and SLC Meter logos and will be driving white trucks with the BWS/SLC Meter logo.
If in doubt, call BWS/SLC at 248-625-066to verify.

Does the installer need to come inside my home?

Yes, the installer will need access to your water meter and the surrounding area. The exterior area where your current reading device is mounted will also need to be clear of any obstacles. As part of the meter inspection, installers will take photographs of your meter and surrounding plumbing valves. An adult (age 18 and over) must be home during the appointment.

What should I do to prepare for the appointment?

A few simple ideas to help streamline the installation process:
     - Inform family or tenants of the installation time and date.
     - Clear the area around the water meter and near the outside reading device.
     - Make sure an adult (18 or older) is home at scheduled appointment time.
     - Secure pets before your appointment.

How long does the installation take?

The installation takes about 60 minutes. Your water will be turned off briefly, and the technician will ensure everything works before leaving.

Will the new meter device affect my electronics?

No, the device uses existing cellular networks to send meter information and won't interfere with your electronics.

What part of the water meter and plumbing am I responsible for?

You are responsible for maintaining the plumbing on either side of the water meter including valves per the Township Water Ordinance. Check that your valves work properly by opening and closing them. Fix any leaks. If repairs are needed, contact a plumber right away.

How can I view my water usage?

About two weeks after your meter has been upgraded, you can sign up for an EyeOnWater© account to track your water usage and set leak alerts. EyeOnWater© is available via a website and a phone app. The installer will provide you with instructions during your appointment.

What if I live in a rental property?

Renters should coordinate with their property owners to schedule the appointment.

What if my business is located in a multi-unit commercial property, like a strip mall?

Tenants should coordinate with their property owners to schedule the appointment. BWS/SLC will work with businesses to minimize disruptions to operations whenever possible.

I already have a new water meter. Do I still need to schedule an appointment?

If your water meter is less than 15 years old and in good working order, only the reading device will be upgraded. Installers will need to visually inspect and photograph your water meter and associated wiring. If no adult (18 and over) is home when the installer arrives, they will leave a door tag with information on how to schedule the interior meter inspection.

What happens if I don't schedule an appointment?

If you don't schedule, BWS/SLC installers will visit to request access. After two notifications without contact, you will receive a red door tag. You will have seven (5) business days to respond before facing water disconnection. Service will only be restored after the upgrade is complete and a reconnection fee has been paid to the Township.

Who can I contact if I have more questions?

If you have questions or concerns, call Blue-Water Solutions at 248-625-0667 Ext. 300 or the Grand Blanc Township Public Works Department at 810-424-2600 Ext. 2903 during normal business hours. Click HERE to be redirected to the DPW page.
