Trash Pick-Up Information

The garbage collection for all of Grand Blanc will be on Wednesdays. For more information, view the 2026 Trash/Recycling/Compost Schedule (PDF).

Let us take this moment to thank you for your business! In order to serve you better, we have prepared a list of guidelines for your disposal needs. Please take a moment to review our procedures. By doing so, you will know what to expect from our staff each week as we service your home.

Service

Your service includes household trash, yard waste, and recyclables. Please do not put trash in cardboard boxes or loose trash in trash containers. For the safety of our employees, please limit all containers and bags to no more than 50 pounds.

Pick Up Schedule

Please have your trash at the curbside before 7:00 a.m. We observe the following holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. When an observed holiday falls within the week, all collections following the holiday will be delayed to the next day. The garbage collection for all of Grand Blanc will now be on Wednesday. Large Item Pick-Up

Each household may dispose of one large item per week.  Carpet must be in 4-foot lengths tied and bundled and limited to one room only per week. Sofa sleepers are not taken. Call 810-424-2600 ext. 2906 with any questions.

Recycling Procedures

Emterra appreciates your concern for the preservation of the environment. In response, we have developed a curbside recycling program to reduce the number of materials that enter landfills. Recyclables include:

  • Cardboard - flattened no larger than 2-foot by 2-foot cut and tied (excluding pizza boxes)
  • Magazines, catalogs, newspapers, paper bags, telephone books
  • Plastic jugs and bottles marked with a Number 1 through Number 7
  • Metal - cans, pie tins, metal lids, aluminum trays, metal clothes hangers, and other small metal items are accepted
  • Glass bottles and jars are accepted

Restrictions

The following items are not allowed in our vehicles. Please be sure they are not included in your weekly trash:

  • Liquid paint, pesticides, gasoline, oil
  • Gas cans, propane tanks
  • Cement, rocks, bricks
  • Tires 
  • Carbonated beverage containers
  • Syringes, infectious hospital waste
  • Liquid solvents and glue
  • Yard waste mixed with trash
  • Car batteries, automotive parts

Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission (GCMPC) holds several  Recycling Days for household hazardous waste and electronics collection where some of these items may be disposed of. Additionally, the GCMPC hosts a tire recycling event. You can visit their website for more information on these events. 

Yard Waste Procedures

Michigan law requires that yard waste be disposed of at approved compost facilities rather than in landfills. Yard waste includes grass clippings, leaves, garden debris, and small branches/shrubbery less than 4 feet in length and 2 inches in diameter (must be bundled and tied). Less than 50 pounds per bundle. Yard waste will be accepted in brown paper lawn and garden bags or loose in trash cans up to 30 gallons clearly marked with a large "X" and less than 50 pounds per container/bag.

We do not accept the following:

  • Straw or Hay
  • Apples
  • Logs, tree stumps
  • Dirt, rocks, sod
  • Compost in plastic bags
  • Pinecones
  • Nuts of any kind
  • Mulch of any kind including rubber and/or wood shavings

To dispose of these items that are not accepted, you may take them to Country Oaks Supply located at 3218 E. Atherton Rd.  Burton, MI  48529.  ph. (810) 743-1920.  They do charge $5 a load.

Compost Season begins the first full week in April and runs through the last full week in November.

Free Dumping Privileges

Township residents can dump from their personal vehicles one time per month, not to exceed the 1,000-pound limit per pass, for free at the Brent Run Landfill located at 8335 W Vienna Road in Montrose. Anything over 1,000 pounds will be charged at a rate of $0.05 per pound. Residents must come to the Township Hall and show their ID to prove residency and a dump pass can be issued.
